About Basquelaine

Basquelaine Performance Belgian Shepherds Seriously Athletic Dogs for Seriously Competitive Handlers I am a hobby breeder of Belgian Shepherd Dogs, primarily the Tervuren variety. I breed under the kennel prefix Basquelaine which was selected 23 years ago when I started out with Great Pyrenees. I decided to use the same kennel name for the Belgian Shepherds as it was more or less as appropriate for a herding breed as it was for a livestock guardian breed. Our sole living Pyrenees is now 13 years old. I will miss her terribly when she passes. She's already 3 years past the life expectancy for the breed. I've been in Belgians for 17 years, breeding with an emphasis on performance/working ability. Basquelaine dogs have earned many titles and awards in agility, herding, obedience, flyball, dock diving and more - even water rescue. Several dogs are therapy certified. Eight dogs are certified Search and Rescue dogs. Basquelaine dogs consistently finish in the top 10 in various rankings in their respective venues. Some of our agility dogs' accomplishments include; one dog invited to the AKC Eukanuba Invitational 3 years in a row, one of those years making it to the final round; another dog is one of only two Tervuren to have earned MACH7 in AKC; two dogs have earned agility championships in multiple venues including USDAA and AKC; one of those two earned a ADCH-Silver and an LAA-silver in elite company. In addition to his MACH3 ADCH-Silver he also earned agility championships in NADAC and ASCA and was twice invited to the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge; several up and coming youngsters are working towards agility championships. A number of Basquelaine bred/owned dogs have also earned AKC, UKC and/or CKC conformation championships. Though our selection emphasis is first and foremost on health, performance/working ability and livability I strive to meet the AKC and UKC breed standards in physical characteristics to produce a dog with both brains and beauty. But I believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
